In the section on tools, I explain how to make a sewing bird from a clothespin and a piece of string. Here is a photograph of such a bird in use. The string is looped through the hole in the handle of the clothespin, and the doubled ends are tied to the dining chair with two half hitches.
The black string on the floor is attached to a
pair of thread-snipping scissors that is ordinarily tethered
to my mending basket.
In the background you see my neck-hung magnifier lying next to a
pile of un-darned socks.
This picture was taken on the spur of the moment; I must do it again when I'm sewing or wearing something plain.
