EXERCISE LOG FOR 2022 Sunday, 10 April 2022 2:13 PM 4/10/2022 Eventual realization that since I always read the source, a text file will do fine, and any text editor or word processor will do for keeping it up to date. Notepad would be excellent, were it not for the gratuitous line breaks that keep appearing. Turning off "word wrap" makes the file unreadable. The help file claims that "word wrap" does not insert hard returns -- so what have I been deleting? I would also like some faint clue as to whether the file on the screen has been saved. I press ^s and maybe something happened and maybe it didn't. It's important that the file be saved before it's saved-as. Been a poor winter for working outside, with high winds and nearly-constant rain. And incentive falls off in the spring, when, if I wait a bit, a nicer day will come along. Now to gather up all those slips of paper. 2:40 PM 4/10/2022 Monday, 11 April 2022 11:35 AM 4/11/2022 Just changed the window size, and didn't find any unwanted line breaks. Maybe turning "wrap" off and on did something. Still no hint of a clue to some sort of indication that the file has been saved. Does ^s work, or doesn't it? I always save from the menu before exiting or save-as ing. Slips of paper still on the floor. 11:39 AM 4/11/2022 11:21 PM 4/11/2022 All set for a Sprawlmart tour tomorrow: tea made, pannier insulated, shopping list printed out. Forgot to thumb-test my tires. Pity I can't make F5 print twenty-four hour time and standard date. Tuesday, 12 April 2022 11:14 PM 4/12/2022 Sprawlmart tour. Best part was picking up supper for two at Sweet Dreams. Next time I'm offered a choice between hot and cold, I'll pick cold. Left at 12:01 12:26 - 12:44 Shoe Sensation 13:00 - 13:19 Dollar General <13:33 - 13:53 Arby's. A "buffalo chicken" slider was just the right amount of food. I shall eat there again. 14:02 - 15:41 Rural King. Found a socket splitter, but no incandescent bulbs to put in it. Package designers sometimes include a very subtle hint as to whether the bulb within is an LED, a fluorescent, a halogen, an incandescent, or one of the hundreds of other kinds of light sources. The hint appears to be something that slipped through by mistake. I wonder what the name of the glowing panel in the Necchi's headlamp is? 15:47 - 15:57 a buffalo-chicken sausage at the Marathon station between Sprawl Two and Sprawl Three. 16:03 -16:21 Staples. They have no keyboard prop. 16:27 - 16:59 R.P. Home & Harvest. Tired, didn't buy anything. 17:03 - 17:14 Dollar Tree. Ditto, also in a hurry to get home by suppertime. ??:?? - 18:01 Sweet Dreams <18:12 Home Wednesday, 13 April 2022 12:04 PM 4/13/2022 Slips of paper gathered up, sorted by date, and nailed to the monitor stand with a corsage pin. Thursday, 28 April 2022 4:27 PM 4/29/2022 Animal-shelter tour cut short at Meijer. It was threatening to rain and I was stupid from skipping my nap. My windbreaker would have kept me warm enough even though there was cotton under it, and it was only three or four miles to home, but I was afraid I'd do something stupid in my haste, so Dave picked me up. I decided to unhitch the bike while waiting, and it took me exactly as long to untangle my cable from the tree, move my bike to the paved horse-hitching spot, and arrange stuff for taking out of the panniers as it took him to get there. I've got to do something about getting out of the house while it's still morning, but if packing my bike and laying out my clothes the day before doesn't do it, what will? 11:46 depart 12:08 pass through Fairlane Estates (trailer court) I was headed for Wooster Road, crossed over to College early, noticed that I was passing the place where the Heritage Trail comes out to College, and followed the trail to the path that leads to Fairlane. Slight risk of confusion when I passed one of the mountain-bike trails. Didn't add up, checked the map, not until starting to type this sentence did I remember that all the bike trails are on the other side of King's Highway. Someday when I feel like a short ride, I must follow that trail and find out where it goes. There are some houses poking through the trees on satellite view, but not enough to account for the wear on the trail. Next time I go to the animal shelter by way of Wooster, I'll follow the other end of the Grace College branch of the Heritage Trail to Fairlane. 12:36 - 12:39 AWL - 12:46 finished putting my windbreaker on. 6:00 PM 4/29/2022 12:48 -13:59 Tractor Supply Plaza 12:56 - 13:20 Why Pay Retail 13:29 - 13:36 Why Pay Retail (clothing) I didn't go into Tractor Supply. After going to the end of the strip mall, I found my way out by crossing from the Furniture Factory Outlet parking lot into the Keystone Granitewerks parking lot. 100 S was much more pleasant than going back through the driveways. 14:31 Took a loop through Boulder Drive and High Ridge Drive off 175E. No sign of the Warsaw Light Show Google says is there. 14:49 Passed through Vicky Lane 15:07 Arrived Meijer. Poked along southern border, found a deer trail giving a good view of the creek between the shopping area and the residential area. 15:46 finished hitching up to a tree behind the horse-parking space. Too tired to shop. Probably took me longer to buy a wrap than walking across the parking lot and eating at Panda Express would have. Saw nothing in the deli department, decided to buy bread and a salad or dip, went round and round the bread department. I think Meijer used to have more-interesting breads, pre-covid. Would have bought flat buns, since we are on our last package of those, but couldn't find plain, settled for pita. Went back to deli to select a salad, found a chicken-pesto wrap, put the pita back. Went back to the bike to eat even though I didn't need my spoon. Found myself too tired to select cat food, settled for buying all flavors of bisque, which we were out of, and one packet of gravy to find out whether it's edible. Then a quick dash through the crafts department in case they have coil-less safety pins, and a vain search for pants hangers. I went through the home department twice without seeing anything remotely resembling hangers or ironing supplies. Dave sent me a text while I was checking out. Notebook says "16:20 called in"; phone says I called home at 18:25. It was 19:20 before I thought to check the time after getting home. Had some stuff to put away. Thursday, 12 May 2022 10:09 AM 5/13/2022 I was amazed at how good I felt yesterday, dispite getting up at seven and skipping my nap. I'm sleepy this morning. (Friday) I can usually do only one thing per day, but yesterday I kept a medical appointment, went to Menards, but was too hungry to find a clerk and ask whether they have four-foot panels that can be bolted together into a square; did learn that their grocery department *does* have a small dairy case. (Dave and I had earlier been wondering whether one could pick up a gallon of milk at Menard's. I thought they had a dairy case, but hadn't been sure.) Then I went to Culver's, and that must be why I felt good -- service was so slow that I read the book I'd brought for the waiting room for twenty minutes. An hour at Aldi's, then I spent twenty-six minutes arranging what I'd bought into my panniers. And when I came back from returning my cart, I noticed that I'd put my little bag of stuff (spoon, spare mask, sun visor, etc.) into one of the carts in the corral, and had to figure out how to tie it on top. I'd used up most or all of my bungees strapping my waiting-room bag to the load. When I got back, it was time to get up from my nap, so I didn't take one. At some point, I raked a wheelbarrow of mulch out of the lake and put it on the asparagus bed. And got to bed after midnight, but I always have trouble sleeping after skipping my nap. I think my body thinks that there's a crisis going on. 1:02 PM 5/23/2022 08:49 depart 09:06 - 10:35 Forefront Dermatology 09:10 - 10:44 bike was locked to cherry tree. I participated on all three days. On Friday I joined the mass ride at six o'clock, but didn't find the food truck until I'd given up and eaten my emergency food bar. I don't think I'd have liked a bisonburger anyway; they always go so overboard on the "low fat" that it tastes like a hockey puck. On Saturday, I got back from the farmers' markets just in time to take the Historical Tour. And today I looked over the three food trucks, bisonburger, another I've forgotten, and the smoked-meat truck, where I got a brisket sandwich. It was quite cold by the time I got home, but it was delicious when zapped a little. 12:04 AM 5/26/2022 -- 147.4 pounds 10:20 AM 5/27/2022 -- 144.8 pounds Friday, 26 May 2022 10:21 AM 5/27/2022 Tomorrow is the first dry day; I want to take a long ride, but I also don't want to carry eggs all over the county. I think I'll make two maps: one for leaving for PetSmart directly from the Farmers' markets, and one for coming home and taking a nap first. I can stay out until nine these days, and have supper out. I don't have long to work my way up to forty miles before the Tour de Lakes, so I*must* ride at least twenty miles tomorrow. Monday, 30 May 2022 11:30 PM 5/30/2022 Made only one map. Ended up eating emergency food bars for supper. The Farm was out of hen's eggs again, and I wasn't all that late to the party. On the other hand, the Legion was selling fried chicken. Nowhere near as good as their offerings used to be, but eminently edible. Came home tired, as planned, which upset my spouse. Still haven't unpacked the cat food. Did enter it into Quicken. Washed dish towels and cleaning rags today, so I did get a little walking in hanging stuff up and taking it down again. Thursday, 2 June 2022 8:50 PM 6/2/2022 All-day trip to Leesburg. Duck, Down, & Above isn't nearly as interesting as it used to be; no wonder there's nothing but recipes in the e-mail mailing list. Everything they've got fits into one freezer display. They did have a few cases of seconds, but each was rather more meat than I want to put into my freezer at one time. I think that I could carry a case on the bike if I repacked it into gallon bags. 12:30 AM 6/3/2022 Didn't think I needed a sandwich bag of ice because I had black ice and wasn't going to run short of water. Forgot that I'd have left-overs from lunch, and didn't want to use expensive duck meat to chill them. The dollar store and both gas stations have groceries, but nothing in Leesburg sold frozen juice. (I did pick up a can of orange juice at Walmart.) Dollar General had a fine-point felt pen I've been looking for ever since I used up my previous one. Since I was going to miss supper anyway, and the frozen duck was well wrapped, I made a side trip to Meijer and bought eight packets of thick soup for Al. Well, seven packets of bisque and one packet of "soft pate`" (That's supposed to be é but grave is all I have on my keyboard. The part of the rail that didn't need replacing had a dent in it shaped like a corner. I wonder what could have been both hard and fast-moving. I'm quite certain a horse didn't do it. Perhaps someone backed13:39 - 14:12 into the rail while turning a large truck around. Saturday, 25 June 2022 6:53 PM 6/25/2022 Blunder run: I meant to go garage sale-ing around the south end of the lake, then come back by way of Pierceton and Sprawlmart, but I got turned around in a housing development and went five and a half miles west on 200 S, wondering all the while why I hadn't yet come to the swerve that turns 200 S into 225 S. Sky was uniformly overcast, making it impossible to tell which way was north. And my departure was slightly later because I panicked when I couldn't put my phone into my pocket and rushed around finally managing to cut a stitch without taking my shirt off -- before remembering that I'd gotten the phone out of that same pocket. 10:31 depart 10:45 drop off "nonstick" skillet at Our Father's House 10:52 Depart fairgrounds market with $2 in cookies 11:00 - 11:01 leaned bike against telphone pole and added the cookies to my notes 11:16 - 11:34 courthouse market <11:46 - 11:34 pavillion pit stop. Felt nervous every time I hit bumps or rough road because vibration can break the filaments. But the one I took out of the pannier when I got home works. Didn't note what time it was when I found my way out of the housing developments, nor yet what time I got back to the high school. 16:44 Home. Two hours and forty minutes isn't bad for going eleven miles out of my way, then walking a substantial distance on the sidewalk of SR 15. Google maps says the ride was 21.3 miles, and I left a lot of zig-zagging out, so I guess I didn't do *too* badly on the exercise. Thursday, 21 July 2022 2:58 AM 7/21/2022 Did a lot of walking on Tuesday. Monday, 25 July 2022 2:56 PM 7/25/2022 Hickman on Tuesday Tuesday, 26 July 2022 12:37 PM 7/26/2022 Walked to the trailhouse and back, probably a mile, and I remembered to walk briskly most of the time. My bike will be ready in a week and a half. You'd think that with the ban on biking, I would have picked up at least some of the slips of paper on the floor. But I haven't even been entering my walks and stair climbing. I climbed all the staircases in the church last Sunday, even the blocked stairs leading from the boiler room to the ramp. Did a lot of walking in two grocery stores on the way back from my eye exam on Tuesday. I did describe that in the Banner. Sunday, 7 August 2022 11:45 PM 8/7/2022 Didn't climb any stairs today, except when I wanted to be at the other end. Yesterday evening, I rode the flatfoot to Haupt Trailhead, with a side trip to Christ's Covenant Church. I'm hoping that my bike will be ready tomorrow. Thursday, 11 August 2022 2:14 AM 8/12/2022 Turns out that the mechanic thought I wanted it held until mid-August. It's in the queue now, and should be ready next week. I wonder whether that was the day I wedged a bungee in my cogs. Nope, I did that rolling out the driveway; I wasn't gone for an hour. An hour would be long enough to hit both farmers' markets if I didn't make any side trips or pit stops. Wednesday, 17 August 2022 8:37 PM 8/19/2022 Sprawlmart tour. 5.8 miles. Saturday, 27 August 2022 9:48 PM 8/27/2022 TOMATO FESTIVAL Planned route: Fairgrounds market, go just ten minutes farther to pick up a badly-needed spool of yellow thread at Lowery's, return home to drop off purchases, go to garage sale on Washington Street just past Wooster, stop at perrenial garage sale just before Pierceton, lunch at tomato festival, home by way of Van Ness and Sprawlmart. I cleaned up a sadly-neglected garden yesterday, which surely counts as unusual activity, but if that were the cause, wouldn't I have noticed it during my morning exercises? Has to be something I did today, but all I did today was cook and sit at the computer. Cooking makes my *back* hurt, not my legs. 8:43 AM 10/13/2022 -- 142.6 pounds Thursday, 13 October 2022 10:59 PM 10/13/2022 I think I know why my legs hurt yesterday. Today all my muscles are sore, and I've been coughing hard enough to make my bladder leak. Some honey and lemon in a glass of fizwater helped when the cough drops got distasteful. 7:59 AM 10/19/2022 138.8 pounds Wednesday, 19 October 2022 I spent most of yesterday in bed. 8:52 AM 10/22/2022 : 139.2 pounds Saturday, 22 October 2022 8:53 AM 10/22/2022 This cold just won't quit. Yesterday I was machine stitching around a small patch. At the halfway point I got up to get a drink or a handkerchief or something, and discovered that I had to have a nap before I could continue. Lovely day today, and I'm determined to take a ride. Can't go near people, but there is a new outdoor classroom "just off the Heritage Trail south of the college". I'm planning to take a copy of Analog and use every bench along the way. 7:42 PM 10/22/2022 11:13 depart 11:20 - 11:25 home 12:25 home Forgot to take notes in between. Lovely day, hardly any people on the Heritage Trail. Then I remembered I'd meant to take Sudogest (generic Sudafed) before leaving, and went back for it. When I returned, the trail was almost crowded, but I don't think I passed my cold to anyone. The boardwalk to the outdoor classroom doesn't lead to it, but to a platform above it where one can park one's wheelchair and look down on the classroom. A gate at the end opens on a step down to a path less steep and root-strewn than the main pathway directly off the Trail. Pity I didn't take notes, because identifying the things I'd seen would be much easier if I knew what order I saw them in. The new road hacked through to the end of an existing road, with fresh stumps all along, has to be Robson Road even though Street view shows two wheel tracks already there. I don't know where the wheel tracks could have led, because the part next to the trail is almost too steep for a pedestrian to descend. I haven't even a clue to the whereabouts of the newly-cleared field extending all the way to Pierceton Road, with shoulder-high stumps. (I should go back and measure one.) A disappointment: There's a trail that I mistook for the beaten path to the trailer park more than once, and I'd thought that since I'd be out that way when I wasn't going somewhere, I'd follow it and find out where it went. Alas, there was a sign on it saying "Trail Closed". On the other hand, on the way back, I went into the trail far enough to read the sign, and it's a "hunting project" that is going to last until January. It's at least ten years overdue; starving deer can thoroughly wreck a forest. I just hope that they aren't hunting under rules that were written to make sure there are plenty of deer to go around. You could kill every last stag, doe, and fawn in any one of our wood lots, and find plenty of deer there the following spring. 8:48 AM 10/23/2022 139.6 pounds 8:52 AM 10/24/2022 137.8 pounds 9:30 AM 10/26/2022 138.2 pounds 9:36 AM 10/27/2022 138.8 with nightshirt on 3:50 PM 10/27/2022 138.4 3:52 PM 10/27/2022 138.0 3:54 PM 10/27/2022 138.4 9:08 AM 10/28/2022 138.2 8:42 AM 10/30/2022 138.2 Saturday 29 October. 2022 6:38 PM 10/30/2022 Heritage Trail again. Got caught in Trick or Treat on the Trails on the way back. Huge crowd blocked my access to Columbia Street, so I turned left on Chestnut. I met some police golf carts and whatnot -- I was too startled to note what -- on the way down. Their booth was at the top, near Pierceton Road. Found the newly-cleared field and measured some of the stumps. Somebody picked up my bike and allowed it to fall on its other side while I was measuring. Luckily, I had very gently laid it deraileur-side down, and I don't think the survey stake he dropped it on was permanently bent. I heard the crash, but didn't see anybody. Both the field and the pathway between it and the first bench led to an already-open field along Pierceton Road. There was a still-sticky pine stump near the fence along the sidewalk along Pierceton Road. At that point, I decided to take the shortest way home, which turned out to be a mistake, as the numbered spaces that had puzzled me on the way up were now active candy-dispensing booths. Transcript: I planned to take a picnic lunch to the first bench, but I ate at home and read Analog on the bench. 13:31 depart 13:59 - 14:03 first bench on Grace side of the road 14:09 - 14:12 path from across from bleachers to mowed field along Pierceton Road 14:13 - 14:31 newly-cleared field. On Wednesday, it was so warm that I left my gloves in the bag with my windbreaker. My notes are rather scrappy: 11:15 depart Arrived Workout Anytime before 11:45. Did wrist extensions and curls (with 2.5 pounds and 5 pounds because I misread the labels), a few overhead presses (no weight, just the bar). Discovered that I'm an inch too short to use the calf raise machine; seems odd because I'm average for a woman of my age. Left Big Lots at 13:11. Found a slotted spoon and a can of cat food; did not find a reason to go back. From before 13:35 to 13:50 -- Taco Bell. 14:13 home. Twenty-three minutes seems a bit long for that leg of the trip. I was still in distress at supper time, and ate only a little fruit cocktail. But I had a hearty helping of left-overs at bedtime snack time. I thought that sleeping until six would make for a restless night, but I took my two o'clock pill at eight, when I got up for the day. Saturday, 26 November 2022 To Meijer and back. I promised I would rest at Lucerne Park going and coming, but skipped it on the way back, While sitting on the bench at Lucerne, I had a wrapper or paper towel to dispose of, walked to a near-by dumpster, started to lift the lid -- scrabble scrabble a squirrel erupted! I was nearly as startled as he was. He paused on the far side of the dumpster long enough for me to see that he had something white in his mouth; I presume that he had the foresight to take his lunch with him. Later a loud noise announced an empty soda can rolling toward the dumpster as fast as the wind could push it. When it hit a dead leaf and stopped, I got up and carried it the rest of the way. For lunch, I bought a pint of chicken salad and ate some on the heel of a loaf of excellent sourdough rye I'd bought. We are still (1 December 2022) eating the left-overs of that lunch.
